In-Depth Laptop Reviews
#1: HP 15 BS164TU (Best Laptop for Gaming Under Rs. 40,000)
If you thought you could not get a laptop good enough to handle gaming at this price range, think again and here’s why.
- Processor: 8th Gen Intel core i5-8250U processor, 1.6GHz base processor speed
- Operating System: This is a DOS-based laptop | Requires separate purchase and installation of operating system software (like Windows), not included in the box | Refer to HP website for drivers
- Display: 15.6-inch Full HD (1920x1080), brightness: 220 nits display
What we like
If you are not a hardcore gamer and enjoy the occasional PUBG or Fortnite sessions with your friends or even games like Euro Truck Simulator, Battlefield 3 etc. then yes the Intel UHD 620 graphics is ideal.
Even some of the latest games can be played on it though you might have to play them on lower graphics settings.
Apart from that, other factors making that possible are also the 8th Gen i5-8250U
processor (a rarity in cheaper laptops) and a 4GB DDR4 RAM.
Together they even allow multitasking so you can browse the internet, stream movies and do the nitty-gritty stuff with ease (all at the same time).
With a 15.6-inch Full-HD display that can capture 200 nits of brightness, you get an excellent viewing experience (now watch movies or play like they were meant to be).
The 1TB HDD gives you tons of storage space where all your videos, photos etc. will easily fit in and you do not have run around backing up things to free up space.
But when you do need to back up your data the 2 USB 3.0 ports are exactly what you need as they offer the best transfer speeds. Wondering how much? Well, how about speeds up to 10GBPS?
The battery life is pretty decent as well as it can offer about 5-6 hours even when used heavily and 8-10 hours with regular use.
A higher processor speed would have been ideal as this model offers about 1.6GHz but since it is an i5 Processor, it nonetheless performs better than any i3 laptop.
Also, you will need to install the Windows OS yourself.

#2: HP 15q-ds0026tu
This HP Laptop is both very similar and at the same time very different from the previous pick. More about the similarities and differences below.
- 7th Gen Intel i3-7020U (2.3 GHz base processor speed, 3 MB SmartCache, 2 cores)
- Windows 10 Home with lifetime validity, No MS Office Provided
- 1TB HDD 5400 rpm SATA, 8GB DDR4-2400 RAM, USB Port: 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Data transfer only); 1 USB 2.0 and HDMI Port: 1 HDMI 1.4b; Disk Drive: CD/DVD writer, Expandable to 16 GB
What we like
The main difference between both the HP laptops is the processor. While the previous pick has an i5, this one has a 7th Gen Intel i3-7020U Processor which clocks at 2.3GHz.
While it may not ideal for most games, it is definitely good enough for basic computing tasks like browsing, movies etc.
The 8GB RAM is way more than what average laptops in this price offer which allows you to run multiple programs simultaneously without your laptop crashing.
But if that was not enough or you are simply looking for an upgrade, the RAM can be expanded to 16GB.
Similarly, even the disk can be upgraded. Yup, in case you find that the 1TB HDD isn’t offering speed like it offers space, just add an SSD into the m.2 slot.
Did you know, SSD’s are 17 times faster than HDD’s? That means your laptop becomes more efficient at multitasking and also boots faster (don’t tell that is a good enough reason to think about an upgrade).
The Battery life of the laptop is another very impressive feature as it can offer about 13-14 -hour runtime on a single charge. And when the battery does finish, it recharges to 50% in a mere 45-minutes
This laptop also has a 15.6-inch Full-HD display and backed by BrightView Technology, you get colors and contrast that give you a crystal clear view of your movies and games.
Working well with that display are the dual HP speakers that deliver a truly immersive sound that give a deep bass while the dialogues are perfectly clear (because without good sound are you really watching a movie?).
And further supporting those clear picture and giving you smooth video playbacks etc. is the same Intel UHD 620 graphics Card.
Lastly, 2 USB 3.0 ports allow you lightning-fast data transfer speeds to and fro the laptop. Plus, Windows 10 is pre-installed and has a lifetime validity.
On the downsides, since the Windows 10 is factory installed, it is slow after booting but if you upgrade the RAM or disk, that should solve the slow boot time.
Also, the i3 processor and the graphics card to not support any graphic-intensive tasks.
#3: Acer Aspire 3 A315-32 (Budget Pick)
Need something on the cheap? How about less a laptop less than even 20k? Interested? Then here’s more about it.
- Processor: This the New Pentium Silver N5000 processor, 1.10 GHz Turbo boost upto 2.70 GHz
- Operating System: Pre-loaded Windows 10 Home with lifetime validity
- Display: 15.6" HD Display Acer ComfyView LED Backlit LCD Panel
What we like
Well, nothing to fancy about the laptop but if you need for basic office tasks like presentations and entertainment, this sure fits the bill.
For that, the laptop has a New Pentium Silver N5000 processor with a base clock speed of 1.10GHz but can turbo boost to 2.70GHz when called upon.
The 4GB RAM is impressive for a low costing laptop but that is not all. How about being able to upgrade it to 8GB? Awesome, isn’t it?
Well, that is not the only upgradable feature. In most cases, 1TB is ample storage space but you can take that up a notch too by upgrading the HDD to 2TB (you will never run out of space with this one).
Another feature that surprised us is the 15.6-inch Full-HD display. You do not often get large displays with such low costing laptops and you definitely do not get colors and contrast like the Aspire 3 can deliver.
Plus, equipped with the ComfyView technology, it goes easy on the eyes so you can even binge on your favorite TV series without red, tired eyes. But what about battery life?
Well, in short, pretty decent as you get 5-6 hours with standard use and 2-3 hours when you watch movies, stream sports like football, cricket etc.
There is also 1 USB 3.0 Ports so that is an added bonus as well and makes file transfer quick, really quick.
Windows 10 is pre-installed as well and has a lifetime validity.
One of the few drawbacks here is that the use of the laptop is very limited due to the low configurations.
Plus, the sound of the laptop is average but you can always use headphones for better sound.
Also, the trackpad of the laptop is not a smoothest and there is no slot for an SSD so you miss out on that as well.
Budget buyers, good laptop hardly get any cheaper than this. With features like the 4GB RAM, upgradable HDD, and RAM, this is definitely the best bang for your buck.

Alternate Product: Acer Aspire 5
If you are looking for a better Acer laptop, the Aspire is one that goes toe to toe with the HP 15. It also has an 8th Gen i5-8250U Processor which clocks at 1.6GHz along with a 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD.
It comes with a Linux OS which can be handy to many users but if need be, you can always have Windows installed to it separately.
#4: Lenovo C330 2-in-1 Convertible Chromebook
Want something sleek and compact that can be used even on travels? Then this Chromebook is just ideal and here is why.
What we like
One of the reasons for that is because the Chromebook can be used as a tablet, in tent mode or as a regular laptop thanks to the flexible hinges and its touchscreen use (now watch movies anytime, anywhere).
Further enabling that is the long 10-hour battery life of the Chromebook so you do not have to be running around with the charger looking for power outlets.
Also, it is ultra-thin which means it pretty much fits into any bag (even your handbag) and weighs a mere 1.2kgs so do not even feel like you are actually carrying a laptop.
With 4GB of RAM, the laptop runs pretty smoothly even when you have tons of tabs opened up or are running 4-5 applications at once.
The 32GB eMMC is definitely not a lot of space but it sure is fast when compared to any HDD so your Chromebook is going to be up and ready is a matter of seconds.
And also, backing up your data to free up space should not take you too long thanks to the USB 3.0 port.
But if space is still an issue for you, you can get it upgraded to 64GB. Plus, it also has SD supports for additional storage space.
With the integrated MediaTek Graphics card, all videos and streams will be clear and smooth.
The 11.6-inch display is Full-HD but more importantly, gives you pictures with brightness, contrast, and colors that will keep you hooked for long hours.
It isn’t exactly a regular laptop but a Chromebook which means from the processor, graphics card to even the storage space is quite standard and ideal only for entertainment purposes.
Also, it has a Chrome OS which means many applications that run with Windows are not going to be compatible with this one.
Lastly, speakers are average so you do not want to be using those very often.
It obviously, is not a regular laptop but definitely a great alternative for anyone who does not want to spend big and wants something that is smooth to use and ideal for entertainment or light work while on the go.
