In-Depth Drone Camera Reviews

#1: DJI Mavic Pro 2 (Best Drone for Professional use)

Whether you have a professional studio and want to shoot movies or just a person that wants his/her travel videos to be the freaking best, DJI Mavic Pro is a no-brainer.

Wondering why? Let’s find out.

DJI Mavic 2 Pro

  • For original gst bill purchase from device kart

  • For warranty purchase only from device kart

  • Premium quality product

Camera Features

You want your footages to have impeccable stability and Mavic Pro delivers just that as it uses a 3-axis gimbal. So whether you are over high seas, the mountains or the beaches, you get smooth and stable videos and images every time.

It is also equipped with the latest 20MP Hasselblad can shoot at a 4k resolution which means it will capture details that is sure to woo your audience.

But what about in low light conditions? Will my videos and images still be as good?

Absolutely, thanks to the 1-inch CMOS sensor that has a sensing area 4 time that of other drones. This means you can now adjust the ISO from 3200 to 12800.

Further helping with low and bright light images is the adjustable f/2.8-f/11 aperture so your images are noise-free (after all, nothing like images under the stars or around a campfire or candles).

And if post-production is something you are good at, you will be happy to know that it has a 10-bit Dlog-M color profile. So how does this help?

By capturing over 1 billion colors and also detailed shadows and highlights so you have all the freedom you would want to bring out the best in the videos.

Plus, the videos are captured using the H.265 compression which is known to store more details and info than the H.264/AVC compression.

There is also a 2x zoom that allows you to capture details without getting too close to the action. This especially helpful if you are into wildlife videography (because the safety of your drone and you are paramount).

And since the Mavic 2 Pro has a hybrid autofocus system, it latches onto the subjects in mere seconds even when you Zoom in/out ensuring the best of moments are sharp and clear.

Also, travelers, don’t you just love those cinematic parallax shots on top a cliff or near that lake nestled in between the mountains? Well, the 48mm lens compresses the perspective giving you an even more epic shot compared to a 24mm wide lens.

Battery Life

The improved battery life means it has a run-time of 31 minutes giving you ample time to cover long distances.

There is a low battery indicator that informs you when it is time to bring the drone back home.

Now, you can do it manually which would be the ideal step if you are really short on battery on a windy day or you can use the Return Home Feature.

Yup, the drone allows you to set its take-off position as home and lands it back with almost pin-point accuracy (and you don’t even need to press a button).

Since DJI Mavic 2 Pro has a foldable design and weighs just about 2.5kgs carrying it to any height should be a breeze (it fits in your palm when folded).

Other Features

You can also shoot hyper lapses and panoramas with just the press of a button, use the dolly zoom for a warp effect or hyperlight to further reduce noise.

And if you are scared about the drone hitting a tree or a rock on its voyage, don’t be. That is because it has a smart obstacle sensing technology which means it can find its way around buildings and trees all by itself.

Controller and Goggles

The smart controller is pretty damn impressive too as it can stream live videos on its 5.5-inch screen in Full-HD.

You can also transfer the videos onto your mobile in minutes once synced with the DJI GO 4 App.

And if you are looking for an even more immersive experience the DJI Goggles are just the addition you need.

One of the few drawbacks of this drone is that it does not automatically avoid obstructions when landing so make sure you do it right (you do not want this to end up on a tree now, do you).

Also, the Return home mode can be slower on windy days so if you are low on battery, take control and get it home quickly before it crashes.

Lastly, it is on the expensive side as it can cost you over 1lac.

  • It is the ideal drone camera for professional use
  • Automatically avoids obstacles when flying
  • The 20MP camera captures footages in 4k
  • With the 3-axis gimbal, it delivers seamless videos on each flight
  • The f/2.8-f/11 aperture and 1-inch CMOS Sensor help manipulate light for better low light photography
  • 2X zoom allows you to shoot animals, people, etc. from a safe distance
  • Captures colors, highlights, and shadows so well that it makes post-processing fun
  • It is lightweight and has a foldable design for easy carrying
  • Smart controller streams live videos in Full-HD
  • It is quite silent especially when compared to cheaper drones
  • Makes shooting hyper lapses and panoramas super easy
  • It has a run-time of 31-minutes

  • Does not automatically avoid obstructions when landing
  • You will need to land it manually when the battery is low on windy days as automatic returns can be slow
  • It has a premium price tag

Is this really worth its high price tag? Well, if you are a true professional and would settle only for the very best both in terms of image quality and functionality, camera drones do not get any better than DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

It is one of the most advanced drone cameras in India and is sure to have people go gaga over your YouTube channel (likes and comments coming in…. ).

Here’s a glimpse of what the Mavic Pro can do

#2: DJI Tello (Best Drone for Beginners)

Do not want to spend lakhs on a drone camera? Well, DJI Tello may not be as advanced as the Mavic Pro 2 but is everything a beginner could have asked for and here’s why.

DJI Tello Drone with 5MP HD Camera 720P Wi-Fi FPV 8D Flips Bounce Mode Quadcopter Stem Coding Newest...
  • Gross weight 280 grams, ez shots record coordinated short videos with circle, 360and up and away
  • Camera yes, 5 mp photos preserve great memories with high-resolution pictures
  • Intel processor professional processing yields high-quality footage

Best Features

One of the best features of this drone is that it can be used both outdoors and indoors. That is because it can take a beating like Muhammad Ali in a boxing ring.

This also makes it the ideal camera drone for kids and newbies as it will not crack even if you happen to get the landing wrong or crash it into a wall.

But for the most part, landing and take-offs should be a breeze as it has an auto-landing and auto-take off feature.

Select the Throw and Go option using the controller and just lightly throw the drone in the air to have it start flying.

Similarly, select the auto-landing option on days you are too lazy to do it by yourself or are unable to get it right.

The 5MP camera captures a good amount of detail and can fly at a height of 50-meters.

Obviously, it is no match for Mavic Pro 2 but the 720P resolution should make for a good viewing experience of those fun family moments at the beach or in the backyard (sure to keep your dog pretty busy).

And you do not have to worry about blurred videos and images either as the drone is able to maintain excellent stability when in the air.

But if that gets too boring, the drone can also do a flip, go around in a circle for cinematic shots, shoot while rotating 360-degrees, etc. to bring out the creative beast in you.

You are also provided with an extra battery and 4 propellers so in case your drone does have a bad crash, a broken propeller can be replaced without any extra cost.

Plus, since there is an additional battery, you do not have to worry about constant charging as a single battery only delivers 13-minutes of runtime.

Also, unlike some of the cheaper drones, this one does not need a special remote controller and can be controlled via your mobile making it easier to control and view the live streaming as you do so.

Well, it is clearly no match for the Mavic Pro 2 as it does not have an obstacle detector and if you crash it too often and too hard, it is bound to fail or break

Also, its low camera specs mean it is only ideal for beginners who would like to shoot nearby areas.

Lastly, if the wind is heavy, this drone isn’t getting anywhere and is most likely going to be out of your control so avoid flying it on such days.

  • Ideal drone for beginners
  • It has a 5MP camera that captures footages at 720p
  • It has excellent stability giving blur-free shots
  • Less noisy than most of the cheaper drones
  • You get an additional battery and 4 propellers
  • The drone can flip, rotate 360-degree, go in circles and so on to help you bring out the creativity in you
  • It has an auto-landing feature for safe and secure landing
  • Throw and go feature makes take-off simple
  • It can be controlled using a smartphone

  • Does not fly well on windy days
  • Difficult to fly at first since it can easily crash into walls and other things
  • Not suitable for professional use

Like I have said above, this is a toy drone and one of the most durable and feature-rich toy drones you will find in the market at this price range offering you great value for your money.

#3: Kiditos Syma X5SW (Drone Camera on a Budget)

Looking for a drone on a budget? The Kiditos Syma offers the best bang for your buck and here’s why we believe so.

Best Features

First and foremost, the drone is available for less than 7k but don’t just buy it because of its lower price, it packs quite the punch as well.

Even for a cheaper drone, it gives you the freedom to view a live stream on your smartphone using the App, Syma FPV. And since the controller comes with a stand for your mobile, it is all really convenient.

The 2MP camera can shoot at 720p HD so you get good video quality (a resolution that is a rarity in cheaper drones).

The Headless Mode is quite a handy feature for first-time users as it does not require you to position the drone correctly. That is because it makes it move forward relative to the controller rather than the head of the drone.

The drone also does flips which can be fun especially if you have kids you want to keep busy (just in case you were looking for a fancy frill).

And if you intend on flying the drone at night time, you do not have to worry about losing it in low light as it has flashlights that make it easier to track.

The drone can fly at a height of 199 feet and at a distance of 70m and is ultralight at 0.2kgs while the battery gives it a run-time of 5-6 minutes.

More importantly, it has a low battery indicator so you can the drone back home in time either manually or just use the One Key Return feature so it comes back to its take-off position smoothly.

Plus, charging the battery is convenient and can be done using your laptop or computer as it has a USB charger. This eliminates the need for power outlets so you do not run out of battery when playing around on the hills, beaches, etc.

As you can see the Kiditos Syma X5SW has a lower run-time when compared to the DJI Tello. And you do not get additional batteries either.

It is also not very durable so make sure you handle it with care. Further multiplying my reason for concern is that they do not provide you with any additional propellers.

Though there are plastic protectors built around the blades to keep it from breaking at the slightest of impact, you do not want it to bang on walls, rooftops, etc. at high speeds as repair charges can be high.

Also, the company not offering a warranty was a red flag for me but note that most nano and micro drones do not have warranties.

  • One of the best drones cameras in India for budget buyers
  • It has a 2MP camera and shoots at 720P
  • With the headless mode, the drone flies relative to the controller’s position rather than the drone head
  • The flashlights on it ensure you do not lose the drone in the dark
  • It has a low battery indicator so you can bring the drone back in time
  • The battery can be charged using a laptop or desktop as it has USB Charger
  • It can rotate 360-degrees
  • Comes with an installed phone holder so you can watch the stream as you fly
  • The One-Key Return makes landing the drone hassle-free

  • Its lightweight build means flying it can be a struggle on windy days
  • You do not get a warranty
  • It has a run-time of only 5-6-minutes
  • You do not get additional batteries or propellers

#4: Super Toy Drone Camera

Another one that is sure to intrigue budget buyers because the Super Toy drone hit the markets with a price tag lower than 5k.

So yeah, you can have your own personal drone at under 5k but is that alone enough to make a purchase? Are there any other features to get excited about? Let’s find out.

SUPER TOY Wi-Fi Camera Drone 2.4GHz Professional RC Quadcopter
  • Basic Features: Headless Mode, Hovering Function, One Key Take OFF/Landing, 360° Degree Rolling, LED Light. Video Record, FPV Real Time.
  • Camera - 2MP 360P Camera , Weight - 0.30 kg , Flying Time: 10-12 minutes , Flying Height - 40 meters
  • Other Functions: 2.4GHz Radio, Wider Control Range, Anti-Interference of Wind and 2 Speed/Rudder Modes with One Key Return Function

Best Features

The Super Toy Drone camera is no frill drone camera though you can do the occasional 360-degree flip with it.

This drone also has night lights so you can do not have to worry about it getting lost in the dark

On the more impressive side, a 2MP camera that shoots and streams at 720P is pretty awesome for a drone that costs less than 5k.

The controller fits comfortably in the hands and has a stand for your phone so you can be wary of any obstacles and get the perfect shots.

This drone also has features like the One-Key Landing and Headless Mode for easy flying and the battery can be recharged via a laptop.

It looks sleek and high-end and the protectors around the propellers ensure your first crash isn’t your last.

Once again, you are not provided with any additional batteries or propellers which is cause for concern as the plastic isn’t that durable and the battery lasts only for 5-10 minutes.

Due to its lightweight build, flying this drone in windy conditions is a tough challenge and it does not go above 30 feet either.

  • It is one of the cheapest camera drones in India
  • Capable of doing 360-degree flips
  • It has a 2MP camera and shoots and streams at 720p
  • Drone controller lets you fit in the phone for live streaming as you fly
  • It comes with One-Key Landing and Headless Mode for easy flying
  • Protectors ensure the propellers do not easily break

  • Does not fly above 30 feet and hard to fly on windy days
  • No additional batteries or propellers are provided
  • Not the most durable of drones
  • No mention of a warranty here either

If you want something just to please the kids without spending big, for less than 5k, I would say it is still a good buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are sure you many questions regarding the legality and rules of flying drones in India so here’s what you need to know about the rules and regulation on drones by the GOI.

Q1: Is Drone Camera Legal in India

First and foremost, drone cameras are absolutely legal in India but make sure you are compliant with all the rules before take-off. This means getting all your licenses and permits and also following the Dos and Don’ts as per the DGCA guidelines. You can read about them here.

Q2: What are the licenses that are needed to fly drones in India?

Here’s a list of permits and licenses you will need in order to fly a professional drone.

A Unique Identification Number (UIN) from the DGCA which is like a number plate and is embossed on the drone. It should cost you around Rs. 1000.

Next up, you will also need an Unmanned Aerial Operator Permit’ (UAOP) or Remote Pilot license if you intend on flying it over 200 feet. This should cost you about Rs 25000 and is valid for a period of 5-years. Renewal of this license costs around Rs 10,000.

You will need drone insurance which is equivalent to all the risk and damages the flying can cost.

Lastly, it has to be NPNT (No permission – No Take-off)  compliant. This is important not just for remote pilots but also manufacturers and operators and is obtained via the Digital Sky Platform.

Q3: What Places are drones banned in India?

One of the places where you should be flying a drone in restricted airspace. This includes areas near the airport, government buildings, military bases or in no-fly zones. You will also want to avoid events such as concerts, cricket/football matches, and public areas until and unless you have permission to do so. Flying drone over private properties without the owner’s permission is also illegal.

Q4: Can tourists fly drones in India?

Tourists from other countries are currently banned from flying drones. If they wish to do so they either need to get in touch with the Ministry of Civil Aviation but the easier way would be to simply lease the drone from an Indian who has obtained a Unique Identification Number (UIN) and UAOP from the DGCA.

Q5: Can I fly a drone without permission and licenses?

Yes, you can fly a drone without any permission or licenses but only nano or micros drones. Also, you need to make sure you keep the nano drones below 50 feet while the Micros drones can fly as high as 200 feet.

Q6: What are Nano and Micro Drones?

While both are compact versions of drones ideal for use by kids, the difference between the two types lies in their weight and the height you can fly them at.

As I told you above, Nano drones can be flown at 50 feet and weigh up to 250g whereas micro-drones can be flown at a height of 200 feet and weight between 250g to 2kgs.
